Artist's Statement
People are my primary subject because I believe an intimate moment with another person is the closest to realizing our own humanity that we can come. I tend to lean toward a vast majority of female subjects because it is from exposure to the opposite sex that I find my own defenses less effective, my perception heightened, and usually elusive truths easier to grasp. The balancing act between the sexes leaves us vulnerable, stripped of bias or presumption. I recognize the subjectivity in this statement but I do not think that subjectivity is either invalid, or renders the work less accessible. As an artist I hope to raise questions, provoke thought, and perhaps better understand both the people who surround me, and myself, as a person and as a man.
