Commissions
It would be my pleasure to discuss commissioned projects proposed by clients.
Procedures
Payment
Standard procedure for this type of arrangement is for a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the total unframed price to be made before work commences, and for the remainder to be received by the artist upon completion (and final approval), prior to shipping. An invoice will be provided to the client.
Reference Material
I work from a photo reference (or a compilation thereof) and a print or a jpeg is acceptable, pending the quality of the image. A high resolution or focus is a must, as is quality of light, and appropriate carriage and expression. If no suitable reference photo is available, or if it is otherwise desired, I can produce one as a part of the arrangement, pending location of course. Otherwise a session at a photographic portrait studio may be required to obtain good reference material.
Design approval
Upon completion of the design for the work, via sketch and study, the client shall be presented with it and given the opportunity to approve of the design or make suggestions as to its modification, before the production of the final piece begins.
Timeline
The average timeline ranges from a few weeks to a couple of months, however in each case a rough deadline is discussed and the client is kept posted as regards progress.
Framing
At present I have no affiliation with any particular framer. As much as it will be pleasant to reverse that situation when the right framing firm presents itself, the present situation leaves framing in the hands of the client. However, the standardized sizes I offer for commissioned pieces keeps in mind and reflects the fact that framing pieces in standard formats carries a reduced cost as compared to custom formats.
Shipping
Shipping is of course the responsibility of the client, and not included in the price of the commission. The artist will send a quote of the shipping cost to the client, and they can forward the balance to him (via www.paypal.com), after which the piece will promptly find itself en route to its new home.
